Municipal elections

Hey all,
Just in case you didn't know, you can vote in the municipal elections even if you're not from London. You just need to show proof of your local address (I believe). So follow the race and go out and vote! Happy Halloween!

I have looked at some of the municipal election candidates and have been disappointed to see aspects of their platforms geared toward student problems, but not student concerns. I see a lot of wanting to clean up "undesirable" student housing for the sake of London looking beautiful, not for the sake of the students. More clearly student problems such as noise issues, garbage in the streets, and students staying in London after graduation.

It seems to me that old folks are the only ones who these issues are of primary concern. I mean I do care that London is beautiful, and sometimes the fights or drunk idiots in the streets at 2AM downtown bother me. But I mean this is a University town; it comes with the territory. My municipal concerns are of much more importance than delapidated student housing that may be an "eyesore". I care that due to our shoddy bus system I have to book of work on Sundays because buses don't come until 9:30AM (when I really need all the shifts I can get cuz I'm a student and I don't have thousands of dollars). And that so much possible recycling is wasted as garbage, because London doesn't pick up or require recycling in businesses or appartment buildings.

"Eyesore" properties is such a petty excuse for part of a campaign. But you know what, it will probably work. You know why? The old folks are the ones who get off their butts and go down to the polls and vote. We are young and able, and yet we bypass our right to vote. Now I rather someone not vote than make a poor undeliberated vote. However, we need to do the research, learn about our candidates, and make an informed choice; because if we don't, then we're in a pretty useless and failed democracy.
